Mother is another name for...
Love- Because of all the love she gives her children, each and
every day of her life. Even if Dad does get neglected from time to time.
Caring- Because of all the care she gives her children
and family. While sometimes forgetting to care for herself by doing little things like shaving her
legs or taking the extra thirty seconds to put on deodorant.
Sharing- Because she shares so much of herself so willingly. Usually
to the point of not having anything left for herself.
Nurturing- Because a Mother nurtures her children from
the moment they are conceived, and continues to do so from that moment on. All the while hoping
that when she has grown old and her children are debating whether or not to put her into a nursing
home, they will remember this and return the favor.
Unselfishness- Because of all the times she's went without
something to make life just a little bit nicer for her children. Like the underwear she so badly
needed because hers were only being held together by two threads.
Nurse- Because she can heal wounds and illnesses better
and faster than any doctor. She can also perform miracles by healing scrapes and bruises with
just a mere kiss. And she usually does all this while she herself has a record case of walking
pneumonia.
Chef- Because of the many meals she will prepare for her family
throughout the years. Even though many of those meals go uneaten, and she is often told "Yuck!",
Mother will still be there to fix the next meal.
Storyteller- Because she reads stories better than anyone else,
and will read the same one over and over again. Even though she really would rather throw the book
out the window than read it again, she reads it with a smile upon her face.
Teacher- Because Mother teaches you to smile, laugh, sit, crawl,
stand, walk, talk, and then continues to teach you every day of your life. Although much of what
Mother teaches may go unheard, it does eventually sink in.
Advisor- Because she gives advice on many subjects, including
but not limited to clothing, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, make-up, dating, teachers etc..
Though this advice is usually taken on the opposite, meaning whatever Mother says, the kids do just
the opposite. This is where the knowledge of reverse psychology comes in handy.
Seamstress- Because of all the Halloween costumes, outfits, prom
dresses, cheerleading uniforms, bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses, Boy Scout Badges she
has sewn. Although Mother's own clothes went out of style years ago and she doesn't have time to make
herself any new ones.
Patience- Because of all the times Mother would just as soon pull
her own hair out, as opposed to answering another "Why?","Why not?", "Why can't I", "When can I" etc..
Optimist- Because no matter how bad everything may seem, even if
it feels as though the world may be coming to an end, Mother can still see the bright side of each
and every situation.
Referee- Because of the many times Mother has had to pull
her fighting children apart and explain to them why fighting is not allowed in her house. While
sustaining bruises, cuts and scrapes in the process.
Defender- Because of the times she marched down to the school to
face the principal and defend her child. Even though her knees were shaking and her palms were
sweaty, she faced the man behind the desk with courage.
Superwoman- Because of her ability to leap tall stacks of toys
while carrying a baby, a diaper bag, two sacks of groceries, a gallon of milk and a case of pop.
Not to mention the third eye she has in the back of her head for seeing what's going on behind her,
or the x-ray vision that allows her to see what's happening on the other side of the wall in the next
room.
Contentment- Because despite all of the above meanings, Mother is
still content with being a Mother and loving her children to the fullest. Though she may occasionally
daydream of being stranded on a deserted island all by herself.
